Itinerary

Day 1 Spain – Bogota

Departure by scheduled flight to Bogota. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Lodging.

Day 2 Bogotá

Breakfast. In the morning we will make a panoramic and pedestrian tour of the historic center of Bogota, we will admire the Colon Theater, the Palace of San Carlos, the Plaza de Bolivar, La Casa de Nariño, residence of the President of the Republic, the Primate Cathedral, the National Capitol and the Liévano Palace. We will arrive at the Cultural Block of the Bank of the Republic and visit the Bank’s Art Museum and the exhibition of the master Botero. We will continue with a visit to the Gold Museum to tour its rooms where pieces of Pre-Columbian gold and silver work are exhibited. Lunch. Afterwards, we will take the cable car or funicular to the Cerro de Monserrate to visit the Sanctuary of the Fallen Lord of Monserrate and from there enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the city (3,152 m). Free afternoon. Overnight.

Day 3 Bogota – Zipaquira – Neiva

Breakfast. At the agreed time, departure from Bogota to the town of Zipaquira. Entrance to the Salt Cathedral, where you will visit the old galleries of the mine where salt is no longer extracted. Lunch. Return to Bogota and continue to the town of Neiva 311 kilometers (5 hours approximately). Arrival at the hotel and accommodation.

Day 4 Neiva – Tatacoa Desert – San Agustín

Breakfast. In the morning we will go to the town of Villavieja, gateway to the desert, where we will visit the Paleontological Museum and then go into cracks eroded by the effects of wind and water since time immemorial for a walk along the trails of “El Cuzco”, a place of special beauty. Lunch. Continue to San Agustin. Arrival at the hotel and lodging.

Day 5 San Agustín

After breakfast, we will leave to visit the Archaeological Park of San Agustin, Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO 1995), where we will visit the Mesitas A, B, C and D; the Ceremonial Fountain of Lavapatas, the Forest of Statues and the Archaeological Museum. Then we will make a tour to the Strait of the Magdalena River, a spectacular rocky gorge that forces the most important river in Colombia to pass only 2.20 m wide. We will continue to the town of Isnos to visit the archaeological parks of Alto de los Idolos and Alto de las Piedras. Return to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 6 San Agustín – Popayán

Breakfast. At the agreed time we will enjoy a pleasant horseback ride to Tablón (plateau) and La Chaquira, a spectacular trail to enjoy the charm of the Andean landscape. Afterwards we will transfer to Popayán for 135 kilometers (5 hours approximately). Arrival at the hotel and accommodation.

Day 7 Popayán – Silvia – Armenia

Breakfast. Departure from Popayán to visit the famous indigenous market of Silvia 60 kilometers (2 hours approximately), cultural and commercial center of the Guambiana culture, one of the best organized and most representative ethnic societies of Colombia. Then departure to Armenia 320 kilometers (6 hours approximately) with lunch (free) en route and continue to Armenia. Arrival at the hotel. Dinner and lodging.

Day 8 Armenia

Breakfast. In the morning, we will begin the tour of the coffee plantation at the Combia hacienda to learn about the process and elaboration of Colombian coffee, which will last approximately 3 hours. Afterwards, we will go to the Coffee Park, a center for the preservation of the historical and cultural heritage of Colombian coffee. Free time for lunch (not included) and return to the hotel. Dinner. Lodging.

Day 9 Armenia- Salento – Cocora Valley

Breakfast. Departure to the Cocora Valley where we will have lunch and appreciate the cloud forest and perform the ritual of the Quindio wax palm, one of the tallest in the world and national flagship tree. At the end we will go to the town of Salento where we will visit the Plaza de Bolivar, the colorful and typical balconies, the royal street, the craft workshops and the viewpoint of Cocora. Return to the hotel. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.

Day 10 Armenia – Jardín – Medellín

Breakfast. Early in the morning, departure from Armenia towards the city of Medellin, 263 kilometers (9 hours approximately), during the route we will make a stop for lunch. During the trip we will visit the beautiful town of Jardín, located in a magnificent setting surrounded by mountains, vegetation and coffee plantations, one of the most beautiful towns in Antioquia. Free time for the visit. At the agreed time with the guide we will continue to the city of Medellin. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.

Day 11 Medellín

Breakfast. After breakfast we will depart for a tour of Medellin visiting places of interest such as the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Nutibara Square, the Sculpture Park, the Rafael Uribe Palace of Culture, the Carabobo Pedestrian Walkway, the old Antioquia Railroad Station, the Alpujarra Administrative Center, the Plaza Mayor Convention Center, the Barefoot Park, the Nutibara Hill and the Pueblito Paisa. Lunch. We will also take a tour where we will visit: Casa Museo De La Memoria and La Comuna 13 – one important places that begin to mark the social transformation of the city. Dinner at the hotel and overnight.

Day 12 Medellín – Guatapé – Cartagena de Indias

Breakfast. In the morning we will go to Guatapé and the Peñol stone, we will visit the town where we will be able to admire the skirting boards of the houses as well as the possibility of climbing the 725 steps of the Peñol stone where we will have a nice view of the reservoir. Lunch. Continue to the airport to take the flight to the city of Cartagena de Indias. Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Lodging.

Day 13 Cartagena – City tour

After breakfast we will start the panoramic tour of the main neighborhoods of the city: Bocagrande, Castillogrande and Manga. We will visit the San Felipe Castle, the most important fortification of the Spanish colonial period in our lands, protecting us from the attacks of pirates and corsairs. Lunch in the historical center. Then we will make a pedestrian tour through the walled sector enjoying its beautiful squares, narrow streets and colorful balconies. Lodging.

Day 14 Cartagena – Visit to the Rosario Islands

Breakfast. At the agreed time, we will go to the dock to board a speedboat to the National Natural Park of the Rosario Islands (duration 1 hour). We will arrive at one of the islands to enjoy the beach and a typical lunch. In the afternoon, at the agreed time, return by boat to Cartagena de Indias. Accommodation.
Note: The San Martín de Pajares Aquarium is closed on Mondays. It is also closed on Tuesdays when the previous Monday is a holiday.

Day 15 Cartagena – free day

Breakfast. Today we will enjoy a free day in Cartagena de Indias to make an excursion according to your preferences, enjoy its gastronomy and its coastal delights. Lodging.

Day 16 Cartagena – Spain

Breakfast. Transfer to the airport to take the flight back to Spain.

Situation

It is located in the northwestern region of South America, bordered to the east by Venezuela and Brazil, to the south by Peru and Ecuador, and to the northwest by Panama. In terms of maritime boundaries, it borders Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela in the Caribbean Sea, and Panama, Costa Rica and Ecuador in the Pacific Ocean.

Recommended time of year

The dry season, between December and March or alternatively in July and August.

There is a wide mosaic of climates and microclimates in Colombia, ranging from the hottest (30 °C on the coasts and plains) to the coldest, with temperatures below 0 °C in the mountain peaks of the Andes and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
